You cannot change the past, but you can most certainly change its impact. Children are impressionable. They cannot survive on their own, so they learn very deeply what works with the adults around them. This is Attachment Theory. Where insecure attachment prevails, the results can disable that individual for a life time –they need persuading to revisit the trauma, and place it firmly in its childhood context.
